The 7th International Conference on Sinologists and Literary Translation opened in Nanjing

Jul 23, 2025

From July 21 to 22, the 7th International Conference on Sinologists and Literary Translation was grandly held in the beautiful city of Nanjing. Jointly organized by the China Writers' Association and the Nanjing Municipal Government, the conference attracted 39 sinologists from 31 countries and renowned Chinese writers such as Bi Feiyu and Liu Zhenyun, aiming to explore new pathways for the international dissemination of Chinese literature.

Since its inception in 2010, the International Conference on Sinologists and Literary Translation has been an important international exchange platform for promoting unity among sinologists worldwide and advancing the translation of Chinese literature abroad. This year's conference, themed "Translating Together Toward the Future," saw the chairman of the China Writers' Association, Zhang Hongsen, present "Friends of Chinese Literature" certificates to 15 sinologists at the opening ceremony, highlighting the global influence and appeal of Chinese literature.

Nanjing, the only World Capital of Literature in China, has seen its cultural industry's added value account for more than 6.7% of its GDP in recent years. This not only demonstrates Nanjing's robust development in the cultural sector but also provides a rich cultural foundation for the conference. Zhou Hongbo, a member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Committee, stated in his speech that Nanjing will fully leverage this platform to continue advancing projects such as the "International Literary Residency Program" and the "Literary Translation Funding Program," striving to make Nanjing a cradle of inspiration for sinologists and a hub for the dissemination of Chinese literature.

In addition to participating in group discussions, the guests also enjoyed Nanjing's "Jinling-flavored" cuisine, attended the launch ceremony of the Global Residency Program for Young Cartoonists of the World Capital of Literature, and participated in a salon on "Literary Diversity and Sustainable Urban Development," deeply experiencing the cultural charm of Nanjing.

This conference is not only a platform for academic exchange but also a bridge for promoting cultural identity and understanding. In today's globalized world, the international dissemination of Chinese literature is particularly important, and the efforts of sinologists are the driving force behind this process. It is hoped that more sinologists and Chinese writers will join hands through this conference to jointly create a new chapter in the dissemination of Chinese literature.
